El joven británico llamó la atención de todos a principios de este año cuando ganó el Campeonato del Mundo FIM Junior de SuperEnduro en pista cubierta, y ahora espera añadir un título al aire libre a su palmarés.

En la primera carrera de la serie, en Serbia, luchó hasta el final con Matthew Green (Rigo Racing) para hacerse con un merecido segundo puesto. Ahora, con otro segundo puesto en la segunda ronda (Red Bull Erzbergrodeo), se sitúa a solo cinco puntos en la lucha por el campeonato.

Mitch Brightmore: Un talento en alza en Hard Enduro

Uno de los 17 participantes en el Red Bull Erzbergrodeo de este año, el piloto del TTR Squade Corse llegó a meta en 16ª posición de la general, superando el límite de cuatro horas con poco más de un minuto de sobra. Para ser su primera llegada a meta en su segunda visita al Gigante de Hierro, fue una carrera memorable para Mitch.

"Fue una sensación irreal ver la meta", dice Mitch. "Red Bull Erzbergrodeo es una carrera tan grande, por lo que para cruzar la línea de meta por primera vez con solo otras 16 personas de los 500 participantes es increíble".

Como la mayoría de las historias del Red Bull Erzbergrodeo, la suya estuvo llena de muchos momentos memorables... "Al salir de Carl's Dinner, sabía que sólo me quedaban 40 minutos. Sentía que iba a estar apretado, pero estaba pilotando lo suficientemente bien como para terminar. Pero entonces se me rompió la pinza del freno trasero y eso me complicó mucho la vida.

"Lo único que podía hacer era ir avanzando en cada tramo e intentar hacerlo lo mejor posible. La gente a los lados de la pista me decía cuánto me quedaba y yo sabía que cada vez estaba más cerca del final. Llegar a la meta con un minuto de sobra fue una locura.

"En general, he dado un gran paso adelante con respecto al año pasado. También estoy contento con mi actuación en Carls Dinner. Creo que esta vez fui mucho más fuerte. No tuve que parar demasiado, sólo para beber agua o si mi línea estaba bloqueada".

Pilotando para el experimentado equipo TTR Squade Corse, Mitch está disfrutando de formar parte de la familia italiana. Habituales desde hace tiempo en Hard Enduro, son capaces de mantenerse centrados en ayudar a Mitch a crecer como piloto.

"Los chicos de TTR Squade Corse son geniales", dice. "Son súper profesionales y son gente fuerte con la que estar. Desde el punto de vista del piloto, no tengo que pensar demasiado. Tienen mi moto funcionando muy bien y todo organizado. Sólo tengo que pilotar lo más fuerte que pueda".

Aunque no es una carrera del Campeonato del Mundo FIM Junior de Hard Enduro, que cuenta con el apoyo de KLIM, la tercera ronda en el Red Bull Romaniacs es la siguiente en la lista de pendientes del joven británico. Deseoso de ganar tanta experiencia como pueda, pasar una semana en las formidables montañas de los Cárpatos debería resultar muy valioso.

"Tengo muchas ganas de participar en la Red Bull Romaniacs. Será mi primera vez. Disfruté mucho en Xross y esto será parecido, pero quizá incluso más duro. Parece que me gustan las carreras de estilo rally y pasar largos días encima de la moto".

Así que, con el título Junior a punto de decidirse en el 24MX GetzenRodeo, ¿puede Mitch ganar dentro y fuera en el mismo año? "Sería increíble ganar los títulos mundiales de SuperEnduro y Hard Enduro Junior el mismo año. Ahora mismo, soy segundo en el campeonato y persigo a Matt Green. Me lleva cinco puntos de ventaja, así que la cosa sigue bastante apretada".

El Campeonato del Mundo FIM de Hard Enduro continúa con la tercera ronda en Red Bull Romaniacs del 25 al 29 de julio.
