Sandra Gómez y su lucha contra el Gigante de Hierro

En la segunda ronda del Mundial de Hard Enduro, Sandra Gómez se alzó con el trofeo Women's Hard Enduro Performance Award en el Red Bull Erzbergrodeo.

Enfrentarse al Red Bull Erzbergrodeo no es ninguna tontería. Con 35 kilómetros de longitud, el Gigante de Hierro teje un recorrido de lo más duro. No hace prisioneros. Aunque el objetivo final del domingo es conquistar los 27 checkpoints, para la mayoría de los 500 corredores que participan en la carrera el simple hecho de llegar lo más lejos posible ya es una victoria en sí misma.

Sandra Gómez, del AG Racing, no es una desconocida en el Red Bull Erzbergrodeo, y está bien acostumbrada a las emociones que ofrece el Gigante de Hierro. El domingo, volvió a ponerse a prueba en el Hard Enduro de un solo día más duro del mundo.

Alcanzó el checkpoint 16 (One Way Train) dentro de las cuatro horas de carrera y terminó en un meritorio y reñido 133º puesto de la general. Aunque sigue soñando con volver a casa algún día con una bandera de finisher, como primera clasificada femenina se llevó el trofeo Women's Hard Enduro Performance Award, patrocinado por GASGAS.

"Estoy muy contenta de cómo han ido las cosas", declaró Sandra tras la prueba. "Salir desde la segunda fila era un gran objetivo y marcó una gran diferencia en mi carrera. Con menos pilotos delante de mí que años anteriores, me ayudó mucho". Sin embargo, a pesar de una buena salida, un radiador dañado dificultó su progresión.

"Una piedra golpeó muy fuerte mi moto en la salida y eso me hizo un agujero en el radiador. No pude arreglarlo, así que tuve que seguir llenándolo de agua para poder continuar. Estoy contenta de lo lejos que he llegado. He dado lo mejor de mí".

Con tiempo para hacer balance de su resultado, la próxima carrera en sus planes es la tercera prueba del Campeonato del Mundo FIM de Hard Enduro en Red Bull Romaniacs en julio. Como primera piloto femenina en completar la categoría Gold, se ha apuntado a cinco días más de emocionantes carreras de Hard Enduro.

"Estoy deseando volver a las montañas de Romaniacs. Me gusta correr en la categoría Gold. Es dura, pero la sensación de terminarla merece la pena. Creo que eso es algo del Hard Enduro que me encanta. Espero que este premio anime a más mujeres a probarlo".
